Which DELE exam do I need for Spanish nationality?

For Spanish nationality by residence, the minimum required is the DELE A2. Higher levels (B1, B2, C1 or C2) also count, but the A2 is enough.

Why is the DELE A2 required for nationality?

Because it's the official way to prove that you have a basic knowledge of Spanish, one of the requirements to obtain nationality by residence.

Is the DELE A2 the only thing I need for nationality?

No. As well as the DELE A2 (language knowledge), you have to pass the CCSE, the test of Constitutional and Sociocultural Knowledge of Spain. They're two different exams and both are run by the Instituto Cervantes.

What's the difference between the DELE A2 and the CCSE?

The DELE A2 measures your level of Spanish (reading, listening, writing and speaking). The CCSE is a test about the Spanish Constitution, culture and society. For nationality you need to pass both.

Who is exempt from the DELE A2 for nationality?

People who are nationals of countries where Spanish is an official language don't need the DELE A2 (but they do need the CCSE). Always check the current official requirements, as they can change.

Does the DELE A2 for nationality expire?

No. The DELE diploma doesn't expire: once you have it, it's valid for life.

What is the DELE A2 exam like?

The DELE A2 has 4 tests (reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression and oral expression). Each test is worth 25 points and it's marked in blocks. You have the full structure explained in my DELE A2 exam FAQ post.
