The DELE C1 certifies effective operational proficiency: you use Spanish with precision and flexibility in demanding academic and professional contexts, understand implicit meaning and master register. It is the level required for many healthcare and teaching credential recognitions. Like every DELE, it never expires.
The C1 is not four simple papers: two of them integrate skills (you write from what you hear and speak from what you read).

Group 1 = papers 1 and 3; Group 2 = papers 2 and 4. Each group is worth 50 points and you need at least 30 out of 50 in each group to get your PASS (apto). The groups do not compensate each other: the key to the C1 is training the integrated skills.
There are two remaining exam sessions with C1 in 2026: Friday 16 October (registration closes in early September) and 13–14 November (registration closes on 30 September). You register at examenes.cervantes.es.

It is a different kind of exam: less visible grammar and more real command of the language — summaries, rephrasing, formal register. Most candidates need 3–4 months of specific preparation.
Tasks that combine two skills: for example, listening to a lecture and writing a text based on it. They are the most surprising part of the C1 and the one most worth training.
