Find out the 6 common mistakes that candidates make in the DELE A2 exam writing test:

1. Not covering the given points, or forgetting one of them.

You need to read the instructions very carefully, and also the points they give you. You have to include ALL of the points in your texts. Don't leave any of them out. Because just by writing about all the points, you guarantee yourself 34% of the score.

2. Not varying your verb tenses.

In the points you'll see that there are verbs in different tenses: some have verbs in the present, others in the past and others in the future. You can use them as a guide to know when to use one tense or another. But always make sure you don't write using just one verb tense. You'll be able to use:

  • Simple present (presente simple): estudio
  • Present continuous (presente continuo): estoy estudiando
  • Imperfect (pretérito imperfecto): estudiaba
  • Simple past (pretérito perfecto simple or indefinido): estudié
  • Present perfect (pretérito perfecto compuesto): he estudiado
  • Near future (futuro próximo): voy a estudiar

3. Not using connectors between sentences.

Connectors are essential for joining sentences. The most basic ones, which you must use, are:

  • Y, e, ni.
  • O, u.
  • Pero.

4. Not using discourse markers.

5. Punctuation marks.

Don't forget to use periods, commas and the proper question marks (¿?) and exclamation marks (¡!). When you finish writing, check that none are missing.

2. And remember that in Spanish, months, days of the week, nationalities, languages and professions are not written with capital letters (uppercase). Proper nouns (first names, surnames, cities, countries) are written with capital letters.
