What the DELE A2 oral test is like
The oral expression and interaction test of the DELE A2 lasts about 12 minutes, and beforehand you get another 12 minutes in a preparation room to organise your ideas. There are 3 tasks, and knowing what the examiner will ask you in each one takes away half the nerves.
Task 1: introduction and monologue on a personal topic
The examiner asks you to talk about an everyday topic you've prepared: your work or your studies, your free time, your holidays, your home, a normal day... Here it's key to use the past tenses well and give some detail, not answer in isolated sentences. The examiner may ask you a question to get you to expand.
Task 2: describe a photo
You choose between two photos and you have to describe it: who's in it, where they are, what they're doing, what they're wearing, what you think is happening. It's not a free description: the photo comes with questions that guide what you have to comment on. Practising a fixed structure to describe helps you avoid going blank.
Task 3: a role-play dialogue based on the photo
Based on the topic of the image, you and the examiner have a simulated conversation about an everyday situation: buying something in a shop, ordering in a restaurant, asking for travel information, etc. It's about interacting naturally: asking, answering, requesting, thanking.
My advice as an examiner
The examiner isn't trying to catch you out: they want you to show that you can handle real situations. Speak slowly but confidently, use simple, correct sentences, and use the 12 minutes of preparation to make a small script. Fluency is trained: the more you practise out loud, the less you'll freeze on exam day.
