What is the DELE exam?

The DELE is an exam that measures your level of Spanish. Taking it gives you a certificate that proves you know Spanish. There are different levels, and the A2 level is for beginners.

What DELE level do you need for citizenship?

For citizenship, they ask for the DELE A2 exam as a minimum. But they also accept higher levels. The higher-level exams are:

DELE B1 - intermediate level

DELE B2 - upper-intermediate level

DELE C1 - advanced level

DELE C2 - upper-advanced level

How many parts does the DELE A2 exam have?

The DELE A2 exam has 4 parts:

  • Reading.
  • Listening.
  • Writing.
  • Speaking.

All the parts are worth the same number of points. Each part is worth 25 points.

How many questions does the DELE A2 exam have?

  • The Reading test has 25 questions and the Listening test has 25 questions (each question is worth one point).
  • The Writing test has 2 tasks and is worth 25 points in total.
  • The Speaking test has 3 tasks and is worth 25 points.

How long does the DELE A2 exam take?

The exam takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes in total. The Reading test takes 60 minutes and the Listening test takes 40 minutes. They are taken together, without a break. When they finish, you get a 30-minute break and then the Writing test begins, which takes 45 minutes. The Speaking test takes 12 minutes and you get another 12 minutes of preparation. You will take this Speaking test after the Writing test or on a different day.

How is the DELE A2 exam marked?

The DELE A2 exam is marked in blocks. The points from the Reading test are added to the points from the Writing test, and the points from the Listening test are added to the points from the Speaking test.

Each test is worth 25 points. To pass, to get the APTO (pass), you need both blocks (Reading+Writing and Listening+Speaking) to have 30 points or more.

Where do you take the DELE A2 exam?

The DELE exam is taken at Instituto Cervantes centers, but also at associated centers, that is, at Spanish academies or universities that have an agreement with the Instituto Cervantes. When will you receive your DELE exam results?

The results will arrive after 2 or 3 months. The diploma will arrive after 6 months.
